Kenyan President William Ruto announced on December 12 that the country will introduce visa-free travel for all tourists from January 2024.
Ruto said that the government has developed a digital platform that will allow all tourists to obtain an electronic travel authorization in advance, eliminating the need for a visa.
Speaking at an event in Nairobi to mark Kenya’s 60th anniversary of independence, Ruto said: “It shall no longer be necessary for any person from any corner of the globe to carry the burden of applying for a visa to come to Kenya.”
Ruto has long been a proponent of visa-free travel within Africa.
Tourism is a vital part of Kenya’s economy, with the country offering beach holidays along its Indian Ocean coastline and wildlife safaris inland.
Ruto said: “Kenya is sending a simple message to humanity: welcome home!”
